| Kingston residents display an extraordinary range of talents. Many are given freely to the benefit of the community when common needs arise. However, all are also available at a price and everyone is encouraged to use local tradespeople to keep our economy thriving. You could learn to play the clarinet, hire a jazz musician, sail a yacht or learn navigation skills, order a fabulous cake or a complete dinner for two. How about buying an unique fused glass picture from a well known local artist? Do you need your garden sorting out, require home care or help with minor legal issues? It is all possible in Kingston. Just click on the Directory of Trades and Skills above. |
| Carole Rolfe at Smashing Glass Carole is an artist in fused glass pictures. She creates ''expressive, intuitive glass that contains overtones of drama, movement and the natural harmonies found in nature. There are visual links to Art Nouveau as glass lends itself to sensual organic forms'' . Carole's intention is to display glass and its purity of colour at its best. Her exciting and unpredictable technique is an ancient process used by the Romans and revived by the Victorians, but with a contemporary twist. Even Carole does not quite know what will finally emerge from the kiln. See details via the link above and read an article on one of Carole's commissions under 'Diary Articles' September16th 2011. |

Health checks for coastal businesses in the South Hams
South Hams businesses on or near the coast can get low cost advice thanks to a new project, supported by South Hams District Council. Advice is being offered to existing businesses to help them grow and improve their profitability. During the one-to-one meetings, business “health checks” appraising relevant aspects of the business are carried out, including finance, marketing, customer relations and other areas of business management. The aim is to help businesses improve their competitiveness, attract more customers and safeguard jobs. The expert advice would normally cost around £500 but is available for just £20 - thanks to grant funding. The business health checks are provided by Business Information Point (BIP), a Devon based enterprise agency. The low cost advice is open to communities in the South Devon Coastal Local Action Group area, including Kingston. In addition, a free Enterprise Club is due to start in Ivybridge, supported by BIP, which is open to anyone thinking of starting up a new business.
For more information contact BIP on 0800 592 872. |
